The exhibition is an excellent, exceptional and fantastic space where suppliers and visitors can organize, coordinate, and exchange commodities, services and information. The exhibition is the direct contact point of suppliers and visitors, the exhibition is the venue for new ideas, information exchange, initiatives, inventions and innovations. In ancient times, the exhibition was considered to be a festival or celebration in which a place was provided for the supply of goods or services. In the past, old people during the week or at a particular time in a particular place at a particular motive or gather in celebration and to organize parties and to hold some customs. Nowadays, exhibition has exited from its initial shape and it is became a place for research, disquisition, Evolution, extension, and accessing to the resources of goods exposure.

Fair Trade today is a truly global movement. Over a million small-scale producers and workers are organized in as many as 3,000 grassroots organizations and their umbrella structures in over 70 countries in the South. Their products are sold in thousands of World-shops or Fair Trade shops, supermarkets and many other sales points in the North and, increasingly, in sales outlets in the Southern hemisphere. The movement is engaged in debates with political decision-makers in the European institutions and international fora on making international trade fairer. On top of that, Fair Trade has made mainstream business more aware of its social and environmental responsibility: Fair Trade is becoming more and more successful.

Here are many stories about the history of Fair Trade. It all started in the United States, where Ten Thousand Villages (formerly Self Help Crafts) began buying needlework from Puerto Rico in 1946, and SERRV began to trade with poor communities in the South in the late 1940s. The first formal “Fair Trade” shop which sold these and other items opened in 1958 in the USA.

The earliest traces of Fair Trade in Europe date from the late 1950s when Oxfam UK started to sell crafts made by Chinese refugees in Oxfam shops. In 1964, it created the first Fair Trade Organization. Parallel initiatives were taking place in the Netherlands and in 1967 the importing organization, Fair Trade Original, was established.

At the same time, Dutch organizations began to sell cane sugar with the message “by buying cane sugar you give people in poor countries a place in the sun of prosperity”. These groups went on to sell handicrafts from the South, and in 1969 the first “Third World Shop” opened. World Shops, or Fair Trade shops as they are called in other parts in the world, have played (and still play) a crucial role in the Fair Trade movement. They constitute not only points of sales but are also very active in campaigning and awareness-raising.

During the 1960s and 1970s, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and socially motivated individuals in many countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America perceived the need for fair marketing organizations, which would provide advice, assistance and support to disadvantaged producers. Many such Southern Fair Trade Organizations were established, and links were made with the new organizations in the North. These relationships were based on partnership, dialogue, transparency and respect. The goal was greater equity in international trade.

Parallel to this citizens’ movement, the developing countries were addressing international political fora such as the second UNCTAD conference (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) in Delhi in 1968, to communicate the message “Trade not Aid.” This approach put the emphasis on the establishment of equitable trade relations with the South, instead of seeing the North appropriate all the benefits and only returning a small part of these benefits in the form of development aid.

The growth of Fair Trade (or alternative trade as it was called in the early days) from the late 60s onwards has been associated primarily with development trade. It grew as a response to poverty and sometimes disaster in the South and focused on the marketing of craft products. Its founders were often the large development and sometimes religious agencies in European countries. These NGOs, working with their counterparts in countries in the South, assisted to establish Southern Fair Trade Organizations that organize producers and production, provide social services to producers, and export to the North. Alongside the development trade there was also a branch of solidarity trade. Organizations were set up to import goods from progressive countries in the South that were both politically and economically marginalized.

Iranians have long been interested in the exhibition. Most exhibitions of Iran’s past centuries were held alongside large ports or large cities, which were located on the way to commercial constructions. Non-ports and big cities were set up along trade routes such as the Silk Road that crossed Iran, which the Iranians boosted by creating caravansaries. With the concentration of power in the Achaemenid dynasty and the establishment of customs and port regulations and complications during the Sassanid era, the establishment of exhibitions in Iran took on a new form. In the Safavid period, an exhibition-style bazaar was established in Isfahan. During the Qajar period, Abbas Mirza’s great exhibition was held in Tabriz, in which Iranian artifacts were displayed, at the exhibition, businessmen from Russia and Ottoman countries also attended. Nasser-al-Din Shah at his first trip to the West in 1248 AH visited the Vienna exhibition in Austria. He was very enthusiastic about the exhibition, and after returning to Iran, he decided to create a permanent place for exhibitions, like Europeans. Attending in exhibitions abroad for the first time, in 1851 coincided with the ceremony of the Crystal Palace of London, and with the declaration of Mirza Taghi Khan Amir Kabir, the owners of the industry participated in the exhibition and Iranian goods such as yarn, cloth, rugs and crafts, tile and a variety of fruits were displayed. The first useful step in realizing the idea of holding exhibitions was taken in 1337, and the exhibition was sponsored by the government and industry owners in Italy, which was financed and paid by them. In 1343, the law of the formation of an International Exhibitions Joint Stock Company was approved. In 1348, the International Asian Exhibition was held in Tehran with the participation of 33 countries. After three Asian exhibitions, the first international exhibition was held in Tehran, in 1352, which was held until 2000 at the 26th International Trade Fair. By 2000, 26 international trade fairs have been held. Since 2001, exhibitions have been held exclusively.
